Why are the bags under my eyes bigger than my boobs?

Welcome. Here you will find pictures of our travels, Cheryl's musings, and stories of our adoptions from Korea.

Our family has traveled extensively and at last count we have been to 27 countries. Our goal is to visit every continent with our children. We believe in travel because we think it can change the world. It awakens one's mind/enlightens and allows one to turn down the volume in order to promote greater understanding. It's only when people meet one another face to face that they can realize one truth: That no matter who we are and where we live, we all share common goals and interests.

We also want to share the joys of adoption with those of you visiting this page and we encourage you to grow your family in the manner. I believe that there are certain moral and ethical obligations that we,as adults, owe every child on this earth. (I really don’t want to get into the debate about whose morals, ethics, etc. but I think we can agree that children have a right to clean water, food, feeling and being safe, etc.) Just as important is that we have an ethical obligation to ensure that every child reaches his/her full potential and develops the characteristics/qualities necessary to promote their own inner virtues which ultimately serve to improve society. Sadly, I do not believe that this can often, if ever,be accomplished in an orphanage. Children throughout the world are in need of loving parents who will be their role models; share their love, gifts and talents;and will lead these tender innocent souls gently onto themselves. We owe it to ourselves and the future to invest in the world's humanity-its children.

I also hope to introduce you to the fun of owning and visiting small wineries. While our winery, Willow Ridge, never opened due to a transfer; we encourage you to discover "THE GRAPE" and the many small wineries of the Midwest.

Finally, I will share some of my writings with you. Writing is my way of giving back to myself. It helps tend to my soul because writing reminds me of the good in people, the important things in life and it inspires me to craft my life into all that I have dreamed of.

Welcome one and all. May you find humor, joy and a little inspiration here.

In Peace,

Cheryl

"An invisible red thread connects those destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but never break." -Ancient Chinese Proverb

I will be posting more thoughts, stories and opinions (which incidentally are like farts-think about it) as time permits. Please check back every once in a while as I ponder the world around us.

A favorite phrase:
Seek to love, not to be loved; seek to understand, not to be understood.- St. Francis of Assisi. Of course there is always "If you want to run with the big dogs stop pooping like a puppy" for those of you who don't want to take the time to ponder exactly what St. Francis meant. You can find more of my most loved sayings if you click the tab entitled 'About Me'

As a sociologist I am interested in societies and how the groups within them function. With all the wealth found in this country I find it reprehensible that those who are economically disadvantaged are looked down upon by many members of society who occupy the top and middle rungs of the ladder, especially those whom where given their spot instead of having worked to get there. This is a tribute to everyone who has ever felt like their humanity has been denied.

EVERYBODY IS SOMEBODY by The Shadow

Nowif a man is born in luxury,
It's proved to me, through history, he is somebody.
If a man is born in poverty,
Starvation and misery, he is nobody.

Everybody is somebody,
Nobody is nobody;
I mean the pauper or the wealthy,
Everybody is somebody.

Property is what it takes
To make such dangerous mistakes about who,
Who is somebody.
When a woman has a child,
And before that child is born,
He or she is somebody.

A loaded wallet makes one glad,
An empty wallet makes one sad,
Listen carefully.
If you are the one who's feeling glad,
Remember the one who's feeling sad
Is somebody.

I think if governments and every human being were to follow the premise stated below; the world would be a better place for all.

"Principles of justice are principles that rational, self-interested people would choose to govern the society in which they were going to live, provided that they did not know, at the time they chose the principles, exactly what their own place in society would be" - James Rachel's forward  to John Rawl's  book, Two Concepts of Rules.

This gem is from Mother Teresa herself. If everyone were to incorporate these words into their daily lives, think about the transformation that would occur on this earth! Words do have the power to inspire. I hope Mother Teresa's inspire you.

BE KIND

People are often unreasonable and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind,
people may accuse you of ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.

If you are honest,
people may cheat you.
Be honest anyway.

If you find happiness,
people may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today
may be forgotten tomorrow,
Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough.
Give your best anyway.

For you see, in the end,
it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.
